Book Club. November

Posted on November 27, 2025November 27, 2025 By Ati Kisjanto No Comments on Book Club. November

Join our book club explored Indonesian literature giving you insight into this fascinating archipelago.

In November we discussed Felix Nesi’s People from Oetimu. The novel explores the turbulent history and colonial experiences of the island of Timor, particularly focusing on the village of Oetimu in West Timor. It deals with themes of colonialism, collective memory, personal and collective trauma, and the impact of political and social upheaval on everyday lives.

Thank you everyone for calling in from Tokyo to Aberystwyth via Jakarta, and contributing your thoughts. It was a lively discussion, and a fascinating and challenging book.

Next meeting will be in March 2026 where we will discuss Burung-burung manyar/ The Weaverbirds by Y.B.Mangunwijaya
