Ramayda Akmal, will be our guest speaker. Ramayda is an Indonesian Literature lecturer at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, who has her PhD in literature from university in Hamburg, Germany has achieved numerous accomplishments through captivating literary works that contribute positively to societal understanding. Born with exceptional literary talent, Ramayda Akmal has created books that not only garnered awards but also provided profound insights into the complex reality of Indonesian life.
Ramayda’s thesis was on Pramoedya Ananta Toer, she also written books, one of which ‘Jatisaba’ has been reprinted. This novel was first published in 2009.
RAMAYDA AKMAL was born in Cilacap on 5 May 1987. She completed her baccalaureate and master’s degrees at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, and her doctoral’s degree at the Asien-Afrika-Institut, Universität Hamburg. Ramayda is a lecturer at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University.
Her novel Jatisaba won the 2010 Jakarta Arts Council Novel Writing Competition. Her short story anthology, Lengkingan Viola Desingan Peluru was selected as the 2013 Best Literature Book by Balai Bahasa Yogyakarta. In 2017, her second novel, Tango & Sadimin was the Runner-Up in the UNNES International Novel Writing Contest. Her latest work Aliansi Monyet Putih was published recently. Ramayda has also written several academic books, including Pahlawan dan Pecundang, Militer dalam Novel-Novel Indonesia (Heroes and Zeroes: The Military in Indonesian Novels; 2014, with Aprinus Salam) and Melawan Takdir, Subjektivitas Pramoedya Ananta Toer dalam Novel Perburuan (Fighting Fate: The Subjectivity of Pramoedya Ananta Toer in the Novel Perburuan; 2015).
