The AIS Book Club’s next read will be Isna Marifa’s Sapaan Sang Giri/Mountains More Ancient, about enslaved Indonesians and indentured labourers in South Africa.
As usual, the book can be read in Indonesian or English, and the discussion will be in English. The e-book of the English version is available on Google Play Books for about £6.
It will meet, by Zoom on Thursday 3rd October, to discuss the book.

Isna Marifa has spent the last 30 years working as an environmental specialist with many international and Indonesian institutions.
Her love for literature led her to write a historical novel published in Indonesia entitled Sapaan Sang Giri (2020), set in 18 th century Java and South Africa. The novel has been published in English with the title Mountains More Ancient (Kabar Media Books, 2022).
