Last month we had our annual general meeting which went smoothly. The AGM was followed by a panel discusion on Chevening Scholarship. During the discussion, HE Dr. Rizal Sukma, the Indonesian Ambassador, and his wife, Ibu Hana Satriyo shared their Chevening experience. Delicious Indonesian food was served after the panel discussion.

Chevening Scholarships bring exceptional individuals from around the world to study in the UK. Both HE Dr Rizal Sukma, the Indonesian Ambassador and his wife Ibu Hana Satriyo are Chevening alumni. In recent years the numbers coming from Indonesia have grown as the UK government has recognised the importance of the UK-Indonesia relationship. Paul Brummell CMG, Head of Soft Power and External Affairs Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, gave a short introduction, then three recent Chevening Scholars shared their experience of undertaking a Scholarship and what it has meant to them in their careers. As always there were time for Q & A.

Thereafter there was an opportunity to network and socialise over drinks and dinner of an Indonesian cuisine bowl of food to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the UK. The wine, lager and soft drinks were free as usual. The menu: Indonesian chicken satay with peanut dipping sauce, Sumatran beef rendang curry with lemon grass & turmeric root rice, Indonesian style crepes filled with pandan infused candied coconut, 64% dark chocolate sauce.
