Due to expected keen interest, this event is also open to non-AIS members, at a price of £10 each to cover the cost of the post-talk refreshments. This must be paid in advance by March 9, via Eventbrite.

Tempe(h) is originally from Java, Indonesia. Interest in this soya-based superfood has mushroomed in the UK over the last six to seven years in line with increased demand for plant-based proteins.

This talk will covertempe(h) from A-Z: its history, how it is made and the health benefits of the ecofriendly & sustainable product.

The talk will be followed by refreshments – including tempe(h)!

Dr Amadeus Driando Ahnan-Winarno, (a.k.a The Tempeh Doctor) is a food “sciencepreneur” and activist with a life mission of giving more people access to nutritious, sustainable, and affordable foods. He does it by innovating on and promoting tempe(h) and tempe(h) fermentation, which originated in Indonesia 400+ years ago.

In 2014, Dr. Driando co-founded the world’s largest tempe(h) network, the Indonesian Tempe Movement, which now has representatives from 24 countries. In 2018, he co-founded the UK’s fastest-growing tempe(h) brand, Better Nature Tempeh.

Since pursuing his PhD in food science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Dr. Driando has received 33 national and international awards for his work in tempeh fermentation, food science, entrepreneurship, and science communication. Dr. Driando first-authored The Tempeh Bible. the world’s most up-to-date manuscript on tempeh and tempeh fermentation, published in CRFSFS, one of the world’s most prominent food science journals. Dr. Driando has registered four patents and launched 10 products onto the European and Middle-Eastern markets.

To further promote tempeh, Dr. Driando has run four out of the world’s six major marathons and published 22 songs (including two albums) on global music platforms.
