January meeting. A sit-down Indonesian dinner

Posted on March 6, 2024April 21, 2025 By Ati Kisjanto No Comments on January meeting. A sit-down Indonesian dinner

Tuesday 14th January, 6.45pm for 7pm. The Indonesian Embassy, 30 Great Peter Street, London SW1P 2BU.
In person and via zoom.

There are still a few places available for the AIS dinner at the Indonesian Embassy on January 14th. We need to confirm numbers with the caterer at 1pm on Friday 10 January. Members who wish to attend must RSVP and pay by the deadline. Details below.

January Meeting

We are sorry to announce that our speaker at the January meeting, the West End singer Desmonda Cathabel, has had to return to Jakarta and so will not be able to attend. We hope she will be able to join us later in the year.

However, the sit-down dinner is still going ahead, at 7pm (Please note the new start time).

For those of you who celebrate Christmas, have a very merry holiday, and Happy New Year to you all!

Desmonda Cathabel is an Indonesian performer and singer currently playing Princess Jasmine in the touring production of Aladdin across the UK and Ireland. In this engaging conversation, Petty Elliott sits down with Desmonda, an artist whose remarkable journey has taken her from the vibrant city of Jakarta to a starring role in London’s West End.

Together they explore the twists and turns of her artistic path, delving into the challenges, triumphs, and defining moments that have shaped Desmonda’s career. From her early passion for music in Indonesia to her rise as a celebrated performer on one of the world’s most prestigious stages, Desmonda shares inspiring stories of determination, resilience, and creativity.

Desmonda was born and raised in Jakarta, lived a whole different life and career before moving to the UK at the end of the pandemic for her MA in Musical Theatre at The Royal Academy of Music on a full tuition scholarship. She is currently playing Princess Jasmine in the first UK & Ireland Tour of Disney’s Aladdin. She was recently seen in ITV’s Mamma Mia: I Have A Dream. She is the winner of the 2022 Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition.

Other credits include: Alternate Kim in Miss Saigon (Sheffield Crucible); Lorene in From Here To Eternity at the Charing Cross Theatre; Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends Concert (Sondheim Theatre); Maria Friedman and Friends (Menier Chocolate Factory).

The talk will be followed by a sit-down dinner. Members who wish to attend this popular annual event must RSVP and pay by January 7th please.  Details are in the flyer below. We hope as many of you as possible can make it.
