Peter is a retired history professor whose specialist subject is the Javanese Prince Diponegoro, who led a war against the Dutch from 1825-1830. Peter’s doctoral thesis was entitled: Dipanagara and the Making of the Java War: Yogyakarta History, 1785-1825. He later wrote a biography of Diponegoro. Peter taught at Oxford University until 2008 and then moved to Indonesia, where he became adjunct professor at the Department of Humanities of the University of Indonesia in Jakarta. He still lives in Java.
