Keynote speaker: H.E.Retno LP Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic ofIndonesia

The World Indonesianist Congress, an important initiative by the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, is a large and diverse gathering of
Indonesianists from all over the world.

Indonesianists refer to non-Indonesian citizens or foreigners with an academic and/or professional specialty and special interests in Indonesia. Their strong cultural affection towards Indonesia
leads them to have strong interests to study various aspects of Indonesia and to create a new generation of Indonesianists. They have an important role in improving the understanding of Indonesia abroad and in strengthening Indonesia’s relations with other countries. The forum has ever since offered
opportunities for Indonesianists to share their ideas, critical views and thoughts about Indonesia for further development and betterment of Indonesia.

The World Indonesianist Congress in 2022 is a continuation of previously similar initiatives which was firstly held in 2018. The first World Indonesianist Congress discussed the role of millennial Indonesianists and their understanding about Indonesia in a dynamic regional architecture and global
order. The second World Indonesianist Congress in 2019 “Building a Better Future of Indonesia: Toward a Tolerant, Vibrant and Creative Society”. Finally, the third Indonesianist Congress in 2021 “Indonesia’s Post COVID Recovery: Grow Stronger and More Resilient”.

The Congresses’ results contribute to enrich and improve the understanding and perspectives of Indonesianist toward Indonesia, and to make a considerable impact in supporting to achieving Indonesia’s future.

This year, the congress “Economic Recovery Acceleration through Tourism and Digital Economy” is to provide a forum for Indonesianists to discuss and exchange views on the recent situation of Indonesia in the pandemic era. Indonesianists are expected to contribute with ideas and views on how Indonesia accelerates the recovery through tourism and digital economy development.
